Wisdom of King Solomon

Many many days ago there was a wise king among the Jews. His name was Solomon. He was famous for his wisdom and judgement. His fame spread everywhere. The Queen of Sheba came to know about his wisdom.

The queen wanted to test his wisdom. So, she decided to pay a visit to King Solomon's court with a scheme in her mind. When she reached the King's court, she paid the respect worthy of a queen to a king. The king also greeted her with royal grandeur. However, the queen respectfully told the king that she had brought a little gift for the king. The king asked what it was. And the queen asked her attendants to bring two garlands of flowers. The King was surprised to see such a gift. The queen told him that one of the garlands was not real, and she hoped that the king would be able to say which one.

The king understood the matter, but he didn't get angry. He accepted the challenge. But it was very difficult to say which was the real one and which was not. They looked so alike! They even had the same fragrance! It was spring season and the king noticed that some bees were humming around flowers outside the garden.

The king then ordered the attendants to open the windows and let the bees enter the court. The bees along with the breeze of spring hummed inside the courtroom. They at once went for the garland made up of real flowers and settled there. The king pointed at the garland of real flowers. The queen was very much pleased to witness the wisdom of the king. She paid her tribute to the wise king and returned to Sheba.

রাজা সলোমনের বিচক্ষণতা

অনেক অনেক দিন আগের কথা। ইহুদিদের মধ্যে একজন জ্ঞানী রাজা ছিলেন। তার নাম ছিল সলোমন। তিনি তার প্রজ্ঞা ও বিচারবুদ্ধির জন্য বিখ্যাত ছিলেন। তার খ্যাতি চারিদিকে ছড়িয়ে পড়ল। শেবার রানী তার প্রজ্ঞা সম্পর্কে জানতে পারলেন।

রানী তার বিচক্ষণতা পরীক্ষা করতে চেয়েছিলেন। সুতরাং তিনি মনের মধ্যে একটি পরিকল্পনা নিয়ে রাজা সলোমনের দরবারে হাজির হওয়ার সিদ্ধান্ত নিলেন। যখন তিনি রাজার দরবারে পৌঁছলেন তখন একজন রানীর পক্ষে রাজাকে যেভাবে সম্মান প্রদর্শন করতে হয় তা তিনি যথাযথভাবে করলেন। রাজাও রানীকে রাজকীয় সম্ভাষণ জানালেন। যা হোক, রানী সশ্রদ্ধভাবে রাজাকে বললেন যে তিনি তার জন্য একটা ছোট্ট উপহার এনেছেন। এটা কী তা রাজা জানতে চাইলেন। রানী তার পারিষদবর্গকে ফুলের মালা দুটি আনতে বললেন। এরকম উপহার দেখে রাজা অবাক হলেন। রানী রাজাকে বললেন যে ফুলের মালাগুলোর একটি সত্যিকার ফুলের মালা না এবং তিনি আশা করলেন যে রাজা বলতে সক্ষম হবেন সেটা কোনটি।

রাজা বিষয়টি বুঝতে পারলেন কিন্তু তিনি রাগান্বিত হলেন না। তিনি চ্যালেঞ্জটি গ্রহণ করলেন। কিন্তু কোনটি সত্যিকার ফুল আর কোনটি সত্যিকার না তা বলা খুব কঠিন ছিল। ফুলগুলো দেখতে একই রকম লাগছিল। এমনকি তাদের সুবাসও একইরকম ছিল। এটা ছিল বসন্তকাল এবং রাজা লক্ষ করলেন যে বাগানে ফুলগুলোর চারপাশে কিছু মৌমাছি গুনগুন শব্দ করছে।

তখন রাজা পরিষদবর্গকে সভাকক্ষের জানালা খুলতে এবং মৌমাছিদেরকে দরবারের ভিতরে প্রবেশের সুযোগ দিতে আদেশ করলেন। মৌমাছিরা বসন্তের সুবাস নিয়ে গুনগুন শব্দে দরবার কক্ষে ঢুকে পড়ল। তারা এক পলকে সত্যিকার ফুল দিয়ে সাজানো মালার উপর অবস্থান করল। রাজা সত্যিকার ফুলের মালাকে চিহ্নিত করলেন। রানী সেখানে রাজার এই বিচক্ষণতা অবলোকনের স্বাক্ষী হতে পেরে খুবই আনন্দিত হলেন। তিনি বিজ্ঞ রাজাকে কুর্নিশ করে শেবাতে ফিরে এলেন।
