Rahim comes of an extremely poor family. He has come to Dhaka with his family in quest of living. His parents and his elder brother do some odd jobs and he collects polythene bags, scrap paper and other materials from the Motijheel area. He sells them at a shop for Tk 5 to 10 a bag. He earns Tk 20 to 50 a day, which he gives to his mother. Rahim and his family live in a slum near Kamalapur Railway Station. This house is a tiny shelter with a sheet of polythene for a roof. They sleep on the dirty floor. Rahim has a bath in a creek near their home. He usually has his meals at home but sometimes begs for food at restaurants. Once he got diarrhoea and had to stay at home for a few days. He could not afford to go to a doctor or buy medicine for himself. He once went to a free school near his home at Tongi but did not continue. He was in the school for about a year and now he wants to go back to school and start his studies again.

রহিম অতিশয় দরিদ্র পরিবার থেকে এসেছে। সে তার পরিবারের সাথে বসবাসের উদ্দেশ্যে ঢাকায় এসেছে। তার বাবা-মা এবং বড় ভাই কিছু ছোট কাজ করে এবং সে পলিথিনের থলে, টুকরো কাগজ এবং অন্যান্য জিনিসপত্র মতিঝিল এলাকা থেকে সংগ্রহ করে। সে এগুলো প্রতি ব্যাগ ৫ থেকে ১০ টাকায় একটি দোকানে বিক্রি করে। সে প্রতিদিন ২০ থেকে ৫০ টাকা আয় করে যা সে তার মাকে দিয়ে দেয়। রহিম এবং তার পরিবার কমলাপুর রেলওয়ে স্টেশনের কাছে একটি বস্তিতে বাস করে। এই ঘরটি এক টুকরো পলিথিনের ছাদে ঘেরা একটি ক্ষুদ্র আশ্রয়। তারা নোংরা মেঝেতে ঘুমায়। রহিম তাদের বাসার কাছে একটি নালাতে গোসল করে।
সে সাধারণত বাসায় তার খাবার খায় কিন্তু মাঝে মাঝে সে খাবারের দোকানগুলো থেকে খাবার ভিক্ষা করে। একদিন তার ডায়রিয়া হয়েছিল এবং কিছুদিন তাকে বাসাতেই থাকতে হয়েছিল। তার ডাক্তারের কাছে যাওয়ার এবং নিজের ঔষধ কেনার সামর্থ্য ছিল না। সে তার বাড়ির কাছে টঙ্গীতে একটি অবৈতনিক বিদ্যালয়ে গিয়েছিল কিন্তু সে তার পড়ালেখা চালিয়ে যায়নি। সে প্রায় এক বছর স্কুলে ছিল এবং বর্তমানে সে স্কুলে ফিরে যেতে চায় এবং আবার তার পড়াশোনা শুরু করতে চায়।
