Long ago, a young man found life in the family in his village full of problems and sufferings. Quarrels, ill-feelings, jealousy, enmityall were part of everyday life there.

So he left his house and went to a jungle to live by himself. There he made a nice little hut with wood, bamboo and reeds. “Ah, how happy I am here!” said the man to himself.

But one day he found some mice in his hut. The little creatures soon made holes in his blanket. So he brought a cat to kill the mice. The cat needed milk. So he brought a cow. The cow needed grass and hay. So he brought a cowboy.

The cowboy needed food. So he took a wife to cook meals. Then children were born to them, and the man found himself again in a family.

So nobody can live alone, unless they are either angels or devils. People need food, shelter, companions and cooperation. They need to help each other. And if they live in a family or community, their need can be fulfilled. Hence living in society can make people good and happy citizens.

মানুষ একা বাঁচতে পারে না

বহুদিন আগে একজন যুবক দেখেছিল যে তার গ্রামের পারিবারিক জীবন সমস্যা ও দুঃখ-যন্ত্রণায় পরিপূর্ণ। ঝগড়া-বিবাদ, বৈরী মনোভাব, ঈর্ষা, শত্রুতা- এগুলো সবই সেখানকার প্রাত্যহিক জীবনের অংশ।

তাই সে তার বাড়ি ছেড়ে জঙ্গলে একা বাস করতে গেল। সেখানে সে কাঠ, বাঁশ ও নলখাগড়া দিয়ে একটি ছোট্ট সুন্দর কুঁড়েঘর তৈরি করল। “আহ, এখানে আমি কত সুখী!” লোকটি মনে মনে বলল।

কিন্তু একদিন সে তার কুঁড়েঘরে কিছু ইঁদুর দেখতে পেল। ছোট্ট প্রাণীগুলো রাতারাতি তার কম্বলগুলোতে ছিদ্র করে ফেলল। তাই সে ইঁদুরগুলোকে মারতে একটি বিড়াল নিয়ে এলো। বিড়ালটির দুধের দরকার পড়ল। তাই সে একটি গরু নিয়ে এলো। গরুটির ঘাস ও খড়ের দরকার পড়ল। তাই সে একটি রাখাল নিয়ে আসলো। রাখালের খাবারের দরকার হলো। তাই সে রান্না করার জন্য একজন স্ত্রী নিয়ে আসলো। তারপর তাদের ছেলেমেয়ে হলো, আর লোকটি নিজেকে আবার পারিবারিক জীবনে দেখতে পেল।

তাই কেউই একা একা বাঁচতে পারে না, যদি না তারা ফেরেশতা কিংবা শয়তান হয়। মানুষের খাবার, আশ্রয়, সঙ্গী ও সহযোগিতার প্রয়োজন। তাদের পারস্পরিক সাহায্যের প্রয়োজন। আর যদি তারা পরিবারে কিংবা সম্প্রদায়ে থাকে, তাদের প্রয়োজন পূর্ণ হতে পারে। তাই সমাজে বসবাস মানুষকে ভালো ও সুখী নাগরিকে পরিণত করতে পারে।
