A Friend in Need is a Friend Indeed
There were two friends. They lived in a certain village. They promised that they would help each other at the time of danger. One day they were passing through a deep forest. Suddenly they heard a loud sound. It was a bear. So, both of them were afraid and were at a loss what to do. One of them knew how to climb a tree. He left his friend in danger and took shelter on a tree. The other friend was helpless.
Suddenly a plan came up in his mind. He knew that the bear doesn't eat any dead animal. Finding no way, he decided to pretend to be dead. According to his plan, he lay on the ground like a dead one. At last, the bear came and found him lying on the ground. The bear smelt the body and considered him to be dead. It went away without doing any harm.
When the bear went away, his friend got down from the tree. He asked what the bear had whispered to him. The friend replied that the bear forbade him to keep company with such a friend who leaves his friend in danger. Hearing this, his friend felt ashamed and went away.

বিপদের বন্ধুই প্রকৃত বন্ধু
একদা দুইজন বন্ধু ছিল। তারা একটি গ্রামে বাস করত। তারা অঙ্গীকার করল যে বিপদের সময় তারা একে অপরকে সাহায্যে করবে। একদিন তারা গভীর বনের মধ্য দিয়ে হেঁটে যাচ্ছিল। হঠাৎ তারা একটি বিকট আওয়াজ শুনল। এটা ছিল একটি ভাল্লুক। তাই, উভয়েই ভীত হয়ে পড়ল এবং কিংকর্তব্যবিমূঢ়হয়ে পড়ল। তাদের মধ্যে একজন গাছে উঠতে পারত। সে বন্ধুকে বিপদে রেখে গাছে আশ্রয় নিল। অন্য বন্ধুটি অসহায় হয়ে পড়ল।
হঠাৎ তার মাথায় একটা বুদ্ধি এল। সে জানত যে ভাল্লুক কোনো মৃত প্রাণী ভক্ষণ করে না। কোনো উপায় খুঁজে না পেয়ে, সে মরার মতো ভান করার সিদ্ধান্ত নিল। তার পরিকল্পনা অনুসারে, সে মৃতের মতো মাটিতে/ভূমিতে শুয়ে পড়ল। অবশেষে ভাল্লুকটি এল এবং তাকে মাটিতে শোয়া অবস্থায় পেল। ভাল্লুকটি তার শরীর শুঁকে দেখল এবং মনে করল সে মৃত। এটি কোনো ক্ষতি না করেই চলে গেল।
যখন ভাল্লুক চলে গেল, তার বন্ধু গাছ থেকে নামল। সে জিজ্ঞাসা করল যে, ভাল্লুকটি তাকে ফিসফিস করে কী বলেছিল। সে জবাবে তার বন্ধুকে বলল যে, ভাল্লুকটি বলেছিল এমন বন্ধুর সঙ্গ পরিহার কর, যে বিপদের সময় তার বন্ধুকে ত্যাগ করে/ছেড়ে যায়। একথা শুনে, তার বন্ধু লজ্জা পেয়ে চলে গেল।
