Patriotism
Patriotism, an inherent quality in a man, is one of the noblest virtues. It means love for and devotion to one’s country. It inspires a man to do everything just and fair for the well-being of the country. Love for one’s own country purifies one’s mind, removes the narrowness of heart and helps one to be selflessly inspired. Patriotic zeal makes a man dutiful, energetic and enthusiastic. Patriotism teaches a man fellow feeling, fraternity and love and sympathy for countrymen. A patriot does not hesitate even to sacrifice his own life for the cause of his country. A true patriot is a selfless lover of his country. So, he is praised and honoured by his countrymen. On the other hand, an unpatriotic man is self-centred. So, he is hated by all. He may have high titles, immense wealth, high social prestige and noble birth, but despite his worldly achievement, he remains a worthless person. An unpatriotic man dies a double death. On the contrary, a patriot is immortal and remains in the hearts of the people even to face any odd challenge as fleeing or trivial. Titumir, Tipu Sultan, Isa Khan, Khudiram, Surja Sen, Pritilata set up glaring examples of patriotism in this sub-continent.
দেশপ্রেম
দেশপ্রেম, যা মানুষের একটি সহজাত গুণ, তা মহত্তম গুণাবলীর অন্যতম। এর মানে নিজ দেশের প্রতি কারও ভালোবাসা ও ভক্তি। এটি একজন মানুষকে দেশের কল্যাণে সবকিছু ন্যায়সঙ্গতভাবে ও স্বচ্ছরূপে করতে অনুপ্রাণিত করে। নিজ দেশের জন্য ভালোবাসা কারও মনকে নির্মল করে, হৃদয়ের সংকীর্ণতা দূর করে এবং কাউকে নিঃস্বার্থভাবে উদ্বুদ্ধ হতে সাহায্য করে। দেশপ্রেমের উদ্দীপনা মানুষকে দায়িত্বশীল, কর্মশক্তিসম্পন্ন ও উৎসাহী করে তোলে। দেশপ্রেম একজন মানুষকে বন্ধুভাব, ভ্রাতৃত্ববোধ এবং দেশের মানুষের জন্য ভালোবাসা ও সহানুভূতি শেখায়। একজন দেশ্রপ্রেমিক তার দেশের জন্য এমনকি তার নিজ জীবন উৎসর্গ করতেও ইতস্তত করে না। সত্যিকার দেশপ্রেমিক তার দেশের একজন নিঃস্বার্থ প্রেমিক। তাই তিনি তার দেশবাসী দ্বারা প্রশংসিত ও সম্মানিত হন। অন্যদিকে, একজন দেশপ্রেমবর্জিত লোক আত্মকেন্দ্রিক হয়। তাই সে সকলের ঘৃণার পাত্র হয়। তার উচ্চ খেতাব, প্রচুর ধন-সম্পদ, উচ্চ সামাজিক মর্যাদা ও উচ্চ বংশ থাকতে পারে কিন্তু তার জাগতিক অর্জন সত্ত্বেও সে মূল্যহীন ব্যক্তিই থেকে যায়। দেশপ্রেমবর্জিত লোকের দু’বার মৃত্যু হয়। বিপরীতে, একজন দেশপ্রেমিক অমর এবং এমনকি মৃত্যুর পরও তিনি মানুষের হৃদয়ে বিরাজ করেন। তিতুমীর, টিপু সুলতান, ঈশা খাঁ, ক্ষুদিরাম, সূর্যসেন, প্রীতিলতা এ উপমহাদেশে দেশপ্রেমের উজ্জ্বল দৃষ্টান্ত স্থাপন করেছেন।
