National Flag
A national flag is the symbol of independence and sovereignty of a free country. Every free nation of the world has its own national flag. Similarly, Bangladesh has also a national flag as she is an independent and sovereign country. Bangladesh got this national flag on December 16, 1971 after a nine-month long valiant struggle of our heroic freedom fighters with the occupied Pakistani army. The flag is rectangular in size having a proportion of 10 : 6. There are two colours in our national flag – bottle green and red. The green colour of our flag stands for everlasting youth, freshness and vigour of the nation. It also symbolizes the greenery of Bangladesh. The deep red round colour part symbolizes the rising sun of independence. It also stands for the supreme sacrifices of our heroic freedom fighters who laid down their lives for the cause of their motherland. The flag is hoisted everyday on top of government buildings, educational institutions and offices. It is hoisted everywhere on the Independence Day and the Victory Day. Besides, it is hoisted half mast on national and international mourning days. Whenever we see our national flag flying, our mind is filled with joy and hearts swell in pride. We feel proud of our national flag.
জাতীয় পতাকা
জাতীয় পতাকা একটি স্বাধীন দেশের স্বাধীনতা ও সার্বভৌমত্বের প্রতীক। বিশ্বের প্রতিটি স্বাধীন রাষ্ট্রের নিজস্ব জাতীয় পতাকা রয়েছে। অনুরূপভাবে বাংলাদেশেরও জাতীয় পতাকা আছে কারণ এটি একটি স্বাধীন ও সার্বভৌম দেশ। দখলদার পাকিস্তানী সেনাদের সাথে আমাদের বীর মুক্তিযোদ্ধাদের নয় মাসব্যাপী বীরত্বপূর্ণ সংগ্রামের পর ১৯৭১ সালের ১৬ই ডিসেম্বর বাংলাদেশ এই জাতীয় পতাকা লাভ করে। পতাকাটি আয়তাকার যার অনুপাত ১০ঃ ৬। আমাদের জাতীয় পতাকায় দু’টি রং আছে- গাঢ় সবুজ ও লাল। আমাদের পতাকার সবুজ রঙ জাতির চির যৌবন, সতেজতা ও উদ্দীপনাকে ইঙ্গিত করে। এটি বাংলাদেশের সবুজ শ্যামলিমারও প্রতীক। গাঢ় লাল বৃত্তাংশটি স্বাধীনতার উদীয়মান সূর্যের প্রতীক। এটি আমাদের বীর মুক্তিযোদ্ধা, যাঁরা মাতৃভূমির জন্য তাঁদের জীবন উৎসর্গ করেছিলেন, তাঁদের সর্বোচ্চ আত্মত্যাগকেও বোঝায়। পতাকাটি সরকারী ভবন, শিক্ষাপ্রতিষ্ঠান ও বিভিন্ন কার্যালয়ের ছাদে প্রতিদিন উড়ানো হয়। স্বাধীনতা দিবস ও বিজয় দিবসে এটি সর্বত্র উত্তোলন করা হয়। পাশাপাশি, রাষ্ট্রীয় ও আন্তর্জাতিক শোক দিবস গুলোতে এটি অর্ধনমিত রাখা হয়। যখনই আমরা আমাদের জাতীয় পতাকা উড়তে দেখি, আমাদের মন আনন্দে ভরে ওঠে এবং হৃদয় গর্বে ফুলে ওঠে। আমরা আমাদের জাতীয় পতাকা নিয়ে গর্ববোধ করি।
