Dowry System
Dowry is an unexpected custom in our society. Like other social evils, it is a curse. At present, it is practiced in both educated and uneducated families. Guardians buy bridegrooms for their daughters by offering money, jewelry and furniture. Greed for money and wealth is the main cause of dowry. Most of the bridegrooms think that it is their right to have money and wealth when they marry because they have a negative attitude towards women. Bridegrooms think that as they provide women with everything, they must pay for the establishment of their husbands. This evil practice affects our society very much. It creates panic in the mind of the guardians who have daughters yet to marry. Very often in newspaper, we read about untold torture women have to face for the non-payment of dowry. As a conscious citizen, I greatly oppose this system. It should be eliminated as soon as possible. We have to create awareness among people about its bad effect in the society. Female persons should be aware of their dignity and right. They have to be educated and contribute to their family as much as possible. If this is done, this social curse can be eliminated.
যৌতুক প্রথা
যৌতুক আমাদের সমাজের একটি অপ্রত্যাশিত প্রথা। অন্যান্য সামাজিক পাপের মত, এটি একটি অভিশাপ। বর্তমান শিক্ষিত ও অশিক্ষিত উভয় পরিবারেই এই প্রথার চর্চা করা হয়। অভিভাবকরা টাকা, অলঙ্কার ও আসবাবপত্র ইত্যাদির লোভ দেখিয়ে তাদের কন্যাদের জন্য বর বা পাত্র ক্রয় করে। অর্থ সম্পদের লোভ যৌতুকের প্রধান কারণ। অধিকাংশ পাত্র মনে করে যে বিয়ের সময় টাকা নেওয়া তাদের অধিকার কারণ মহিলাদের প্রতি তাদের ভাবনা নেতিবাচক। পাত্ররা মনে করে যে তারা যেমন মেয়েদের সবকিছুর ভরণপোষণ করছে তেমনি তাদেরকে প্রতিষ্ঠিত হবার জন্য টাকা দেওয়া উচিত। এই অপপ্রথার চর্চা সমাজের অনেক ক্ষতি করে। যেসব অভিভাবকের বিবাহযোগ্য কন্যা আছে এটি তাদের মনে দুশ্চিন্তা সৃষ্টি করে। প্রায়ই আমরা সংবাদপত্রে পড়ি যে, যৌতুক না দিতে পারায় মেয়েদের উপর অমানবিক নির্যাতন করা হয়েছে। একজন সচেতন নাগরিক হিসেবে আমি এই প্রথার তীব্র বিরোধিতা করি। যতদ্রুত সম্ভব এটি নির্মূল করা উচিত। আমাদেরকে এটির নেতিবাচক দিকগুলো সম্পর্কে জনগণের মধ্যে সচেতনতা সৃষ্টি করতে হবে। মেয়েদেরকে তাদের সম্মান ও অধিকার সম্পর্কে সচেতন হতে হবে। তাদেরকে শিক্ষিত হতে হবে এবং যতটুকু সম্ভব পরিবারে অবদান রাখতে হবে। এটি করতে পারলে, এই সামাজিক অভিশাপ দূর করা যাবে।
