Culture
Culture means the established customs and beliefs, art, ways of life etc of a particular society or of a country. The culture of a nation reflects its ideas, attitudes and social condition. The elements of culture are its own language, thoughts about the bad and good, ways of working. They also include its literature, music, games and sports, the means and objects made and used by the people in that society. A human being is the most important element of a society. We can study a person by observing his frequent activities. In the same way we can study a society by observing the remarkable ways and modes of life of that particular society. There are various societies in the world and so there are different cultures. A traditional and established mode of belief and behaviour in one culture may prove unsuitable in another culture. The modes of behaviour in Asian societies are often conservative. But in western countries they are much frank and relaxed. Cultures vary from one society to another. Our music has notable distinction; while western music mainly relies on instruments. When the cultural traits of some country have a remarkable impact on the culture of a foreign country, it is called cultural assault. Now our culture is being westernized in many ways; our literature, music, painting and even our life-style are gradually changing.
সংস্কৃতি
সংস্কৃতি মানে হচ্ছে একটি নির্দিষ্ট সমাজ অথবা একটি দেশের প্রতিষ্ঠিত প্রথা এবং বিশ্বাস, শিল্প, জীবন প্রণালী ইত্যাদি। একটি দেশের সংস্কৃতি তার ধারণা, দৃষ্টিভঙ্গি এবং সামাজিক অবস্থাকে প্রতিফলিত করে। সংস্কৃতির উপাদানগুলো হচ্ছে তার নিজস্ব ভাষা, ভালো ও মন্দ সম্পর্কে ধারণা, কাজের পদ্ধতি। সাহিত্য, সঙ্গীত, খেলাধূলা, রীতিনীতি এবং বস্তুসমূহ যা সমাজের লোকেরা ব্যবহার করে এসবের অন্তর্ভুক্ত। মানুষ সমাজের একটি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ উপাদান। আমরা একজন ব্যক্তিকে মূল্যায়ন করি তার প্রায়শঃ কাজকর্ম পর্যবেক্ষণ করে। একইভাবে আমরা একটি সমাজকে মূল্যায়ন করি তার জীবন প্রণালী এবং উল্লেখযোগ্য নীতিসমূহ পর্যবেক্ষণ করে। পৃথিবীতে বিভিন্ন সমাজ যেমন রয়েছে, তেমনি বিভিন্ন সংস্কৃতিও রয়েছে। একটি সংস্কৃতিতে প্রচলিত এবং প্রতিষ্ঠিত বিশ্বাস এবং আচরণবিধি অন্য সংস্কৃতিতে অনুপযোগী প্রমাণিত হতে পারে। এশিয়ার সামাজিক আচরণ রক্ষণশীল। কিন্তু পাশ্চাত্যের দেশগুলোতে এগুলো অনেক অকপট ও সংস্কারমুক্ত। সমাজভেদে সংস্কৃতি ভিন্ন হয়। আমাদের সঙ্গীতের উল্লেখযোগ্য বৈশিষ্ট্য রয়েছে, যেখানে পশ্চিমা সঙ্গীত মূলত: বাদ্যযন্ত্রের উপর নির্ভরশীল। যখন কোনো দেশের সংস্কৃতিতে অন্য দেশের সংস্কৃতির উল্লেখযোগ্য প্রভাব পড়ে, তখন তাকে সাংস্কৃতিক আগ্রাসন বলে। আমাদের সংস্কৃতি এখন বিভিন্নভাবে পাশ্চাত্যকরণ হচ্ছে; আমাদের সাহিত্য, সঙ্গীত, চিত্রকর্ম এমনকি আমাদের জীবনধারাও ক্রমান্বয়ে পরিবর্তিত হচ্ছে।
