Bangla New Year
The first day of Bangla New Year is Pahela Baishakh. It is one of the most popular public celebrations in the life of Bangladeshis. This day bears a special significance to us. Every year this day of cultural and traditional heritage is celebrated all over the country with enthusiasm and funfair. It is a unique and distinctive festival to the people of all classes and communities in Bangladesh. The day is a public holiday. The day has an appeal to both the rural and urban people. On this day the shopkeepers open their new accounts book and celebrate it through arranging Halkhata festival. They invite their customers and clients and offer sweets and other foods. The customers pay all dues they left out throughout the year. The village people also arrange Baishakhi Mela in different places. The village people of all classes enjoy them very much. In the capital city the day opens with the celebration of Chhayanat, a leading cultural organization. Besides, Bangla Academy, National Museum, National Press Club etc. arrange meetings and seminars. The Institute of Fine Arts of Dhaka University brings out a colourful procession wearing various masks. Various mass media give coverage to the significance of the day. Thus, the day is a national day and comes to the life of every Bangladeshi with pleasure and happiness.
বাংলা নববর্ষ
বাংলা নতুন বছরের প্রথম দিন হচ্ছে পহেলা বৈশাখ। এটা বাংলাদেশিদের নিকট একটা জনপ্রিয় সরকারি উৎসবের দিন। আমাদের নিকট দিনটির গুরুত্ব অনেক। সাংস্কৃতিক ও ঐতিহ্যগত এই দিনটি প্রত্যেক বছর সারা দেশে উৎসাহ ও আনন্দের সাথে উদযাপন করা হয়। বাংলাদেশের সকল শ্রেণি ও সম্প্রদায়ের কাছে এটি একটি একক ও স্বতন্ত্র উৎসব। দিনটি হচ্ছে সরকারি ছুটির দিন। গ্রাম ও শহর উভয় এলাকার লোকদের কাছে এর সমান আবেদন রয়েছে। এই দিনে দোকানদারেরা নতুন হিসাব খুলে এবং হালখাতার মাধ্যমে দিনটি উদযাপন করে থাকে। তারা তাদের ক্রেতা ও খরিদ্দারদেরকে আমন্ত্রণ করে এবং মিষ্টি ও অন্যান্য খাবার প্রদান করে থাকে। ক্রেতারা সারা বছরে রেখে যাওয়া সকল পাওনা পরিশোধ করে থাকে। গ্রাম্য লোকেরা বিভিন্ন জায়গায় বৈশাখী মেলারও আয়োজন করে। গ্রামের সকল শ্রেণির লোক এটাকে খুব বেশি উপভোগ করে। রাজধানী শহরে একটি শীর্ষস্থানীয় সাংস্কৃতিক সংগঠন ছায়ানটের মাধ্যমে দিন শুরু হয়। তাছাড়া বাংলা একাডেমি, জাতীয় যাদুঘর, জাতীয় প্রেসক্লাব ইত্যাদিও বিভিন্ন সভা ও সমাবেশের আয়োজন করে। বিভিন্ন ধরনের মুখোশ পরিধান করে ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের চারুকলা বিভাগের ছাত্র-ছাত্রীরা একটা শোভা যাত্রার আয়োজন করে। বিভিন্ন গণমাধ্যমগুলো বিশেষভাবে দিনটি উদযাপন করে। এভাবে এ দিনটি হচ্ছে একটি জাতীয় দিন এবং সকল বাংলাদেশির নিকট দিনটি আনন্দ ও সুখের দিন হিসাবে আসে।
