Last year I went to the Baishakhi Mela at Ramna. I went there with my classmates. When we entered the fair, it was evening. I was surprised to see the decoration of the fair. The whole area was decorated with colourful lights and festoons. The environment of the fair charmed me a lot. There were stalls of earthen pottery, cosmetics, sweetmeats, bamboo flutes, toys, traditional handicrafts and so on. I also saw some stalls of watered rice and our national fish. Young girls wearing white and red coloured mixed sarees were helping the customers there to buy something. Circus, merry-go-round (Nagordolla), puppet show, magic show etc. were the main attractions of the fair. There were also arrangements of Bangla folk songs like Zaree, Saree, Polligeeti etc. The fair also worked as a market for cottage industries. The artisans, potters and weavers were encouraged by it. The security of the fair was very praiseworthy. A lot of police and volunteers were appointed there. Moving around the fair I along with my friends saw everything. We ate many rare sweetmeats. I felt very pleased going to the fair. There I saw people of all ages and religions. I look upon the fair as a symbol of our national unity.

আমার দেখা একটি বৈশাখী মেলা

গত বছর রমনাতে আমি একটি বৈশাখী মেলায় গিয়েছিলাম। আমি আমার সহপাঠীদের সঙ্গে সেখানে গিয়েছিলাম। যখন আমরা মেলায় প্রবেশ করলাম তখন সন্ধ্যা ছিল। মেলার সাজ দেখে আমি বিস্মিত হয়েছিলাম। সমস্ত অঞ্চল বিভিন্ন রঙিন বাতি ও ফেস্টুন দ্বারা সাজানো হয়েছিল। মেলার পরিবেশ আমাকে অত্যন্ত বিমোহিত করে। সেখানে মাটির পাত্রের, কসমেটিকস/সাজসজ্জার, মিষ্টির, বাঁশের বাঁশির, খেলনার, ঐতিহ্যবাহি হস্তজাত পণ্য ও আরও অনেক কিছুর দোকান ছিল। আমি পান্তা ভাত এবং আমাদের জাতীয় মাছের কিছু দোকানও দেখলাম। তরুণীরা সাদা ও লাল রঙ মিশ্রিত শাড়ী পরে সেখানে গ্রাহকদের কিছু কিনতে সাহায্য করছিল। সার্কাস, নাগরদোলা, পুতুল নাচ, ম্যাজিক শো ইত্যাদি ছিল মেলার প্রধান আকর্ষণ। সেখানে বাংলা লোকগীতি যেমন জারি, সারি, পল্লিগীতি ইত্যাদিরও আয়োজন করা হয়েছিল। ক্ষুদ্র শিল্পের বাজার হিসেবেও মেলাটি কাজ করেছিল। শিল্পীরা, কুমাররা এবং তাতীরা ইহাতে উৎসাহিত হয়েছিল। মেলার প্রতিরক্ষাব্যবস্থা অত্যন্ত প্রশংসনীয় ছিল। বহু সংখ্যক পুলিশ ও সেচ্ছাসেবক কর্মী নিয়োগ দেওয়া হয়েছিল। আমি আমার বন্ধুদের সাথে সমস্ত স্থান ঘুরে সবকিছু দেখলাম। আমরা অনেক দুর্লভ মিষ্টান্ন খেয়েছিলাম। মেলায় গিয়ে আমি খুবই আনন্দিত হয়েছিলাম। সেখানে আমি সকল বয়সের ও ধর্মের জনসাধারণকে দেখেছিলাম। আমি মেলাটিকে আমাদের জাতীয় ঐক্য হিসেবে গণ্য করি।
