A Stormy Night
A stormy night is very horrible for the rural people and especially those living in thatched huts of our country. Last year I had a terrible and devastating experience of a stormy night. It was the Bangla month of Baishakh. One day in the afternoon, I went to a local market with my uncle to buy fish and other things. The day was very hot. All on a sudden, the wind dropped and the weather became uncanny. The northern sky began to grow dark and a big cloud began to move fast towards the south. My uncle told me to follow him fast. Within a few minutes there were heavy lightning and thunderbolts along with storm. By that time, the whole area was completely dark and nothing was clearly visible. But the light of frequent lightning was making everything clear to see. Before my own eyes I saw a big jackfruit tree being uprooted. It made a great cracking sound. After a while we reached home and took shelter in our sitting room. The storm continued for two hours. After a period of massive devastation, the storm subsided. Many a day has passed but I can never forget the memory of the stormy night.
একটি ঝড়ের রাত
একটি ঝড়ের রাত আমাদের দেশের গ্রাম্য লোকদের বিশেষ করে যারা খড়ের কুঁড়েঘরে বাস করে তাদের জন্য খুবই ভয়াবহ। গত বছর আমার একটি ঝড়ের রাতের ভয়াবহ এবং বিপর্যয়কর অভিজ্ঞতা হয়েছিল। এটা ছিল বাংলা বৈশাখ মাস। একদিন বিকেলে আমি আমার চাচার সাথে মাছ এবং অন্যান্য জিনিস কিনতে স্থানীয় একটি বাজারে গিয়েছিলাম। দিনটি খুব উষ্ণ ছিল। হঠাৎ বাতাসের গতি কমে গেল এবং আবহাওয়া ভূতুড়ে মনে হল। উত্তরের আকাশ অন্ধকার হয়ে উঠতে শুরু করল এবং একটি বড় ধরনের মেঘ দক্ষিণ দিকে খুব দ্রুত যেতে শুরু করল। আমার চাচা দ্রুত তাঁকে অনুসরণ করতে বললেন। কিছু সময়ের মধ্যে বিজলী চমকাতে শুরু করল এবং বজ্রপাতসহ ঝড় শুরু হল। সেই সময় সমস্ত এলাকা সম্পূর্ণরূপে অন্ধকার হয়ে উঠল এবং কোনো কিছুই উৎকৃষ্টভাবে দেখা যাচ্ছিল না। কিন্তু ঘন ঘন বিজলীর আলোতে সবকিছু উৎকৃষ্টভাবে দেখা যাচ্ছিল। আমার চোখের সামনে দেখলাম একটি বড় কাঁঠাল গাছ উপড়ে ফেলেছে। এটি খুব তীক্ষ¥ আওয়াজ করেছিল। কিছুক্ষণ পর আমরা বাড়ি পৌঁছলাম এবং আমাদের বসার ঘরে আশ্রয় নিলাম। ঝড় দুঘণ্টা যাবৎ চলেছিল। কিছু সময়ের প্রকাণ্ড ধ্বংসযজ্ঞের পর ঝড় থেমেছিল। অনেক দিন অতিবাহিত হয়েছে কিন্তু সে রাতের ঝড়ের স্মৃতি কখনো ভুলতে পারি না।
