THE TAJ MAHAL
India has many beautiful historical places of interest, but the beauty of the Taj Mahal surpasses the beauty of all other places. So the Taj is considered as a majestic piece of art and architecture. It is in Agra in India. It stands on the bank of the river Jamuna. Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan of Delhi built this beautiful building about 3 hundred 50 years ago. Architecturally, it is still one of the most beautiful buildings in the world. This building is the symbol of immortal love. Emperor Shah Jahan became very grieved at the demise of Mumtaj as a result of which he made up his mind to build a memorial to commemorate the name of his wife in the world. It was built three centuries ago. The building is made of fine white marble with inlays of coloured marble. It rests on a platform or terrace of red sandstone. There is a large dome above the centre of the building. Around this large dome, there are four smaller domes. Just inside the outer walls, there is an open corridor from which visitors can look through the carved marble screens into a central room. The Taj Mahal is surrounded by a beautiful garden and there is a long pool that stretches out in front of the building. The pool looks like a fairy dressed in a spotless white attire. All these features have made the building really attractive. Visitors come to see this building at different times of the day since it assumes a different look at different times. But the Taj seems most appealing on moonlit nights.
