Newspaper

The paper which carries various types of news to us is called newspaper. We get all types of news of home and abroad in the newspaper. That is why, it is called the store-house of knowledge. A lot of people of town cannot pass a day without newspaper.

The history of newspaper is very old. The first newspaper of the world was published in Venice. The first English newspaper of the sub-continent was ‘The Indian Gazette’. ‘The Samachar Darpan’ was the first Bangla newspaper of this sub-continent. The publisher of it was Missionaries of Sreerampore.

There are various kinds of newspapers such as Daily, Weekly, Biweekly/Fortnightly, Monthly, Quarterly etc. Most of the people read the dailies because of getting current and fresh news. A great number of daily newspaper is published in Bangladesh. The most famous daily newspapers of Bangladesh are the Daily Ittefaq, the Daily Nayiea Diganta, the Daily Janakantha, the Daily Inquilab, the Daily Jugantar, the Daily Prothom Alo, the Daily Independent, the Daily Bangladesh Observer, the Daily Star etc.

The value of newspaper reading is great because all kinds of news such as market news, business news, sports news, news of vacancy of service, economic news, news of inventions, political news, cinema news, news of the government opinion, news of public views, news of important incidents, various strange news etc. are published in the newspapers. We can know all kinds of news of home and abroad from a newspaper after only a day. Newspaper is also the source of mass education. It is a great source of publicity. Though newspaper is useful to all classes of people, it is very useful to the students and unemployed educated persons. Newspaper plays a vital role after television. It is also a source of pleasure.

In a democratic country a newspaper is not free from evils because of yellow journalists and political interference. Sometimes false news is published in the newspapers which creates disturbance in the country.

The world has come closer for the cause of newspaper. It is helping the readers to increase their knowledge day by day.  So everybody should go through newspaper daily.
